Malta is aiming to attract more foreign universities to the island, its Education Minister has said, amidst concern about new legislation changing the requirements institutions must fulfill to become a university.

Malta's ELT sector has seen a rise in student weeks as demand grows among students outside of traditional European markets according to the Federation of English Language Teacher Organisations Malta.

Figures from leading Turkish agency association, UED, show the UK increased it's already dominate market share of language course bookings in 2014 despite a weak lira at the beginning of the year.

Traditionally a market for short-term junior courses, Malta's English school sector is aiming to attract longer-term, mature students. The country’s ELT representative body, the Federation of English Language Teaching Organisation, expects 2014 figures to show more growth after strong increases in 2013.

The Institute of English Language Studies Malta, one of the largest English language schools in Malta and Gozo, has acquired Magister Academy, one of the island's original English language schools.

Malta-based ELT company EC has launched a new website this month, offering 360-degree tours which means students and agents can get a good look at the school in which they will be studying. The company is also toasting its employee engagement rating.
