The university preparation program will give students a direct pipeline to RMIT degree programs. The company says it expects up to 2,000 students to enrol on the foundation course in its inaugural year.

Developed and accredited by RMIT, the course is is an alternative to year 12 in Australia’s curriculum. Pre-university students can study courses leading directly into degree streams in art, design & architecture, business or science, engineering & health.

The program is an extension of RMIT Training’s pathway services and 50-year old English for Academic Purposes courses which enrol some 4,000 English language students annually.

Students on the foundation program will be given access to support services developed for the EAP program which include exam workshops, student lounges, a mentoring program and social events calendar.

Creating in-house pathways will help strengthen RMIT’s brand proposition, according to RMIT Training’s CEO Rachel Holthouse. “We are fortunate in that we can utilise our existing infrastructure which already delivers high level services to our students,” she said.

RMIT Training has offices in Melbourne, Dubai and Beijing but the Foundation Studies program will only be available in Melbourne. Its EAP courses, meanwhile, are delivered in collaboration with partners in Vietnam, China and Thailand.
