Pacquiao also has a masters degree in public education

Pacquiao, who enjoyed a successful boxing career garnering multiple world titles in various categories, said the partnership between him and the group “symbolises the transformative power of education”.

“Education is not merely a process of acquiring knowledge; it is a catalyst for personal growth, social progress, and economic development. It empowers individuals, enhances critical thinking, and equips us to face the challenges of an ever-evolving world,” he said.

Pacquiao also has a masters degree in public education, which he cited as another reason for his connection to the “importance of education”.

The partnership will see Pacquiao become a brand ambassador for Times Education Group, which has six colleges covering vociational education and training, higher education and ELICOS.

He will also be listed as an investor.

It is not the first foray into different areas of work for Pacquiao – the former boxer was a senator in the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, and even mounted a presidential campaign in his final year in office.

Times Education Group’s CEO Charles Shiao “couldn’t be more enthusiastic” to welcome Pacquiao into the fold.

“Manny is a proven winner in life… his ring exploits continue to inspire the youth to keep persevering in life, and his passion for education, as proven by his efforts to pursue his studies, is perfectly in line with our ideals,” Shiao said.

The addition of Pacquiao to the investor list comes as “lifelong scholarships” are to be handed out to “aspiring students”, as part of “planned collaborations” with Filipino colleges.

It was not specified, when the PIE asked for clarification, if Pacquiao’s investment would directly contribute to the scholarships.

The partnership also comes on the heels of a “world expansion” plan for Times Education Group in 2024, with a plethora of new courses being announced in English, hospitality, IT and more.

“My story inspires countless individuals around the world”

The group also revealed new sports courses, including programs in sports coaching and exercise management as part of the creation of a new Sports Institute.

“My story inspires countless individuals around the world, proving that education is the great equaliser that transcends social and economic barriers,” Pacquiao added.

The news comes as reports also suggest Pacquiao will bid to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
