The Hull campus in the UK capital is set to welcome its first students this year

The centre in Bloomsbury in central London will have three intakes per year with initial programs on offer covering a range of Business courses, such as Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Digital Marketing and Advertising.

This is the first partnership of its kind for CEG, but it does have another division – ONCAMPUS – that offers pre university study options in London.

CEG and Hull noted that the centre marks a “significant step” forward it their internationalisation strategies.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the University of Hull to bring their renowned academic programs to the heart of London,” said Brendan Webb, CEO, Commercial of CEG.

“This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to provide students with access to exceptional education opportunities, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in their careers.”

Last year, the University of Portsmouth announced it would set up a university campus in Waltham Forest – the only north east London borough without a higher education institute.

Other non-London universities with campuses in the capital include Coventry, Northumbria and Newcastle – all of which have campuses near Liverpool Street.

The University of Ulster offers courses in both London and Birmingham, in partnership with QA Higher Education.

With its main campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough, Anglia Ruskin University – which is merging with Writtle University College in February – is another example. It has two buildings in London – one in the City of London and another in the Docklands in East London.

London campuses are an important strategy for many UK-wide universities.

However in Australia, one recommendation of the recent trade subcommittee report, released in October of last year, urged the government to “review and consider the desirability” of the widespread practice of universities establishing Central Business District campuses “largely comprising” international students and sub-contract the teaching to private institutions.

The classes at the Hull campus in the UK capital have been developed by Hull academic staff and it is championing access to London’s employment networks as a major selling point.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for the University of Hull”

“The London Study Centre will provide students the chance to study on leading academic programmes in the capital, whilst retaining the identity, heritage and standards of our wonderful University,” said Dave Petley, vice-chancellor at the University of Hull.

“It will empower our students to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in their chosen fields, whilst providing opportunities to engage with the local community and professional networks, ensuring they gain invaluable experience and connections.

“The expertise and proven track record of CEG in providing high-quality education and support to students will be instrumental in making the London Study Centre a success.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for the University of Hull,” Petley added.

Dean of the London Study Centre, Chris Macallister, said, “The team in London look forward to welcoming our first students in May, bringing the excellence of Hull’s teaching to the Capital.”
