Guests of Honour: Professor Colin Riordan, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Cardiff and Chair, UK Higher Education International Unit (UKHEIU); Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of Sector, Erasmus & HE Erasmus+, Directorate General for Education and Culture, European Commission and Anne Marie Graham, Head of Programme, Outward Student Mobility, UK Higher Education International Unit (UKHEIU)

This timely seminar is focused on the future of policies designed to increase the number of UK students studying, training and teaching abroad. It will be an opportunity to discuss the proposals set out in the UK Higher Education International Unit Outward Student Mobility Strategy, published in December 2013, and is also being held as the European Commission prepares to implement the new Erasmus+ programme.

Planned sessions focus on the current trends in UK outward student mobility, and the challenges for HEIs and the UK government in increasing the number of UK students studying abroad – including issues of language and student finance. Delegates will also discuss the reformed Erasmus programme, which will now include support for volunteering, teaching, on-the-job training and lifelong learning opportunities, and how to increase UK’s participation rate.

The conference will bring together key policymakers from across Government and the relevant regulatory and funding bodies with stakeholders including universities and their mission groups, FE colleges, language schools, student groups, Apprenticeship providers and others with an interest in these issues.

We are delighted that Professor Colin Riordan, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Cardiff and Chair, UK Higher Education International Unit (UKHEIU); Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of Sector, Erasmus & HE Erasmus+, Directorate General for Education and Culture, European Commission and Anne Marie Graham, Head of Programme, Outward Student Mobility, UK Higher Education International Unit (UKHEIU) have agreed to deliver keynote addresses at this seminar.

Ana Capilla, Assistant to the Director General of University Policy, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, Spanish Government; Stephen Isherwood, Chief Executive, Association of Graduate Recruiters; Julia Kennedy, International Exchanges Manager and Erasmus Institutional Co-ordinator, Robert Gordon University; Rok Primožič, Chairperson, European Students’ Union; Ruth Sinclair-Jones, Director, UK National Agency Erasmus+, British Council and Sarah Thomson, Acting Director of Strategic Partnerships, De Montfort University have also agreed to speak.
