First Conference for Homestay Coordinators in North America

The first ever professional development conference for homestay coordinators will be held in Toronto, Canada, on Friday, November 18, 2016.

“While homestay workshops have been held as part of international education conferences in the past, this is the first one dedicated solely to growing the knowledge of homestay coordinators,” says event organizer Doug Ronson, President of ESQ Educational Services.

“Homestay is one of the three pillars of a successful program, along with academics and social. With homestay being so important, we feel it is time to recognize and support the vital work done by homestay coordinators.”

Some of the topics that will be discussed at the workshop include:

• How to recruit outstanding hosts
• Improving host/student communication
• Student challenges, including mental health, digital addiction and eating disorders

ESQ Educational Services is the publisher of two best-selling books, The Essential Guide for Homestay Students and The Essential Guide for Homestay Hosts. These guides are used by programs across North America for host and student orientation. Doug Ronson has facilitated homestay workshops at several conferences, including Languages Canada and the Canadian Association of Public Schools – International. He has been involved in homestay for the past 20 years.
