The next BAISIS conference will be held at Jury’s Inn, Birmingham on Friday 10 March 2017. The annual conference is most  important event in the BAISIS calendar.  It attracts more than 80 delegates from member and non-member schools. The aim of the conference is to provide networking opportunities, information and professional development through separate programmes for teachers and senior managers.

We are delighted to announce two very exciting, high-profile plenary speakers to open and close the conference.  Lord Bilimoria, President of UKCISA, is renowned as a powerful and entertaining speaker and a passionate advocate for the benefits which international students bring to the UK economy and society.  We are honoured that he has accepted our invitation to be our keynote speaker.  Bringing the conference to a close is another passionate advocate for young people.  Natasha Devon has been named Cosmopolitan’s ‘Ultimate Woman of the Year’ 2012, a Mental Health Association ‘hero’ and one of Ernst & Young’s Top 50 Social Entrepreneurs. In 2014 the Self-Esteem Team, which she co-founded, won an award at the House of Commons recognising their services to education.  She promises to provide a provocative and inspiring finale to the event.

This year’s programme continues to cater for the particular needs of EAL specialists and to offer support to their subject specialist colleagues, both through sessions run by respected educational consultants and the expertise of our own members.  The emphasis is on sharing knowledge and experience by providing practical advice and tips to inform and develop classroom practice.

Following the success of last year’s conference, we have expanded the number of topics which will be of particular interest to heads, registrars, marketing and other senior managers.  We are delighted to have Michael Weston, former Senior Headmaster of Sherborne Qatar, with us to share his experience of opening a school overseas – a project which an increasing number of British schools are considering.  Matthew Burgess returns to bring us up-to-date with post-Brexit / UKVI issues.  UKiset and Password English Language Testing present two online assessment tools and offer an opportunity for registrars and recruitment professionals, not only to compare the features of each system, but to ask questions about how each relates to their own specific needs.  We also have contributions from CASE Europe, AEGIS and BBSW – all leading authorities in the fields of development, guardianship and recruitment respectively.
