UK: Bucksmore acquires Homelingua

Bucksmore Education, part of the ISIS Education and Travel Group, has acquired home tuition provider Homelingua. Traditionally a provider of summer programmes for children and teenagers, the addition of the home tuition course network marks an expansion of Bucksmore Education’s product portfolio.

"It's a high-end product that fits with Bucksmore"

“We can use our expertise of summer programmes in home tuition and we can pull on ISIS’s adult schools”

“It’s an additional direction for Bucksmore,” Matthew Tighe, Bucksmore company manager told The PIE News. “Bucksmore is a strong brand at the moment but we were looking for new ways to exploit the brand and make it more diverse.”

Tighe says the home tuition market has great growth potential. “There are limitless possibilities with what we can do with it,” he said. “We can use our expertise of summer programmes in home tuition and we can draw on ISIS’s adult schools.”

“It’s a different string to our bow,” he added.

As one of the market leaders for home tuition courses in the UK, Bucksmore plans to integrate Homelingua into its current operations while still maintaining the company’s name and logo.

“A lot of people in our agent network had heard of Homelingua but for many markets it’s new and exciting,” he said. “It’s a high-end product that fits with Bucksmore.”

Kelvin Folwer, founder of Homelingua, told The PIE News  he is “delighted” that the company is “passing into such a dynamic and professional pair of hands as Bucksmore”.

Since starting the business almost 20 years ago, Fowler says home tuition has become a main stream product. “However, there are many agents and customers who remain unaware of the home tuition solution, and there is great potential for growth and expansion, and Bucksmore are the ideal company to take the business forward.”

“A well operated home tuition course offers on of the best value language learning solutions in the market,” he commented. “It is a genuine total immersion experience offering an authentic experience of language, culture and lifestyle.”

Avatar Education Ltd, which trades under the name Bucksmore Education, was acquired by the ISIS group in 2003.

With nine locations throughout southern England, Bucksmore has been hosting summer programmes for 32 years and has welcomed over 10,000 students from 40 countries and nationalities in that time.

Founded in 1994, Homelingua specialises in intensive one-to-one English home tution courses taught in the homes of teachers.
