The Scottish school is for 14-17 year-olds and will be based in a 12th century castle on the Napier University campus,  near the city centre. Students will live onsite and benefit from evening activities, day trips, sports and sightseeing—as well as attending the city’s summer festivals. The school operates from June 23 to August 10.

Kaplan says it also plans to open a new junior school in Brighton in Summer 2013

Anna Robinson, Kaplan’s junior operations manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “Edinburgh is a wonderful historic city which has been an extremely popular destination for young English language learners for well over forty years.

“Kaplan has been voted ‘best educator in Scotland’ and this reputation for outstanding education and care is now available for 14-17 year olds.”

Kaplan says it also plans to open a junior school in Brighton in Summer 2013 and is expanding its junior courses in the UK. Courses are currently available in Bath, Bournemouth, London (Kingston), Salisbury and Torquay.

Junior language learning is said to be booming in Europe and the US, despite a fall in adult business due to the recession. Parents are still willing to spend on their children who face a competitive job market. Children can also study in many countries more easily than adults, often on tourist visas.
