There has been a drop in demand for English higher education among international students for the first time since 1985, research has confirmed. The number of full-time EU undergraduate entrants fell by nearly a quarter in 2012-13, while Indian and Pakistani enrolments have halved since 2010.
The German government is to provide universities with the largest amount of funding for internationalisation projects ever. Eighteen universities will have access to €1m each over four years to develop partnerships with institutions overseas.

Stricter immigration rules for foreign students and new UKBA rules have caused the number of businesses going bust in the education sector to soar by 44%, according to research from a British accountancy firm. 169 educational institutions became insolvent in 2011, up from 117 in 2010. Corporate insolvencies as a whole rose by just 3% in the same period.
