International students at higher education institutions in Germany grew once again last year, increasing by 7% on top of 2014's gains, totalling 321,569, making up 12% of the country’s student body.
The German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, and the University Grants Commission based in India, have launched a new joint programme to strengthen higher education partnerships between the two countries. The Indo-German Partnership in Higher Education programme was made official earlier this month in New Delhi.
A report by DAAD and DZHW has found that the number of international master's students in Germany has increased by 131% since 2008. The number of foreign master's students in the country has also reached 66,647.
German universities will have decreasing intake from German students so they are actually interested in getting more students, keeping up the numbers, or else otherwise we will be closing several institutions.
The government-funded German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) published new statistics earlier this week revealing the number of international students in German universities is higher than ever, with one in ten students hailing from overseas (11.3%). For the first time DAAD has also disclosed that around 50% of foreign students remain in the country after graduating.
Figures from DAAD show that the number of international students in Germany increased by 7% last year to 300,000. DAAD says its goal of hosting 350,000 students by 2020 is "more than achievable"; getting half of all German students studying abroad in six years might be more challenging.
Findings from research conducted by the British Council and the German Academic Exchange Service show that transnational education (TNE) is often an affordable alternative to traditional student mobility and is seen to better prepare students for the job market than local providers.
