Navitas to expand SAE presence in California

Global education provider Navitas is set to acquire California-based creative media college Ex’pression for US$13 million. The deal will be completed through the company’s media education subsidiary, SAE Institute Group. With campuses near San Francisco and San Jose, the move will double SAE’s locations in the state.

US university CEO charged with visa fraud

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a "notice of intent to withdraw" accreditation to California's University of Herguan after federal agents charged CEO, Jerry Wang, with visa fraud. Wang was arrested just a day after the US House of Representatives passed a bill that would require all HE institutions to have national or regional accreditation.

Private ELT sector fights state rules in California

Leading language schools in California are considering lobbying action over new state licensing regulations which they say are unfair. Recent rules classing them as "vocational education" mean duplicate state-level accreditation is required plus contributions to a tuition recovery fund their clients may not easily be able to access.
