Password English Language Testing has announced a partnership with proctoring platform Examity to offer secure language tests to students at home.
The Password Skills Plus tests – like its in-person exams – will allow students to prove their English language level to universities, colleges, and schools across the world.
“Test providers have been talking about the ‘pyjama test’ for many years,” said Caroline Browne, founder and CEO of Password English Language Testing.
“Until now, security concerns have meant that this has remained simply a dream, but with the combined security features of Password and Examity, this has now become a reality.”
The new test fulfils UK Home Office requirements for university admission, and will be monitored by Examity’s online proctors.
The proctoring service boasts a “much lower ratio of test-takers to proctors” than its competitors, and couples online human invigilation with “powerful” technology.

It also collaborates with Paragon Testing Enterprises on its CAEL Online test, launched in 2020.

Password launched in 2008, with hundreds of universities, colleges and schools using the provider to enhance in-house testing with CEFR aligned independent assessment.
Testing providers launched at-home solutions during the pandemic, including ETS and iTEP. Duolingo English Test launched in 2016.
Pearson partnered with Regula Forensics in 2021 on ensuring security of its tests and launched PTE Academic online, and IELTS began the rollout of its IELTS Online test in 2022.
