European study abroad network, the Agency for International Language Study (AILS), has launched a new website to promote its homestay language classes because of the increasing popularity of study in a teacher’s home.

The site promotes the company’s total immersion programmes, in which participants are given private language classes by a teacher while staying with his or her family in the country of their choice. More than 20 languages are available for study in over 40 countries.

In a statement, the company said: “AILS has developed this new platform in order to enhance the visibility of these increasingly popular, high quality programmes… The newly designed website enables anyone to quickly and easily create their ideal, tailor-made programme in just a few clicks.”

On top of their language courses, live-in-and-learn clients can choose from 24 sports activities, as well as other pastimes such as cooking or photography to supplement their programme.

Examples include Mandarin Chinese courses in Beijing with calligraphy; German and horse riding in Munich; and English and Maori culture in New Zealand. Courses for specific purposes, such as business or exam preparation, are also available.

“These programmes create outstanding conditions for language and cultural immersion,” said the company. “After their private courses, guests keep on practising the language and get to know the culture by sharing their hosts’ everyday life.”

AILS was founded in Switzerland in 1996 and is now a network of six language travel agencies in Geneva, Lausanne, Paris, Nice, Lyon and Brussels. As its focus is the French-speaking student market, the new website is currently only available in French.
