UK-based girls boarding school Wycombe Abbey has announced it will open its second international school in China, as part of its agreement with Chinese education provider BE Education.

The Wycombe Abbey International School Hengqin will open in September 2019 in the Hengqin Special Area, in Zhuhai in China’s Guangdong province.

The school will cater for 1,000 students from pre-preparatory to secondary school level.

“It is wonderful that we can already look forward to the opening of a second school in China”

It will join Wycombe Abbey International School, Changzhou in the school group’s portfolio of international schools in China.

“After enjoying the impressive growth and success of our first sister school, Wycombe Abbey International School, Changzhou, over the past year, it is wonderful that we can already look forward to the opening of a second school in China,” said Rhiannon Wilkinson, Wycombe Abbey’s headteacher.

“I am sure that the students in Hengqin will flourish with the introduction of our unique boarding environment and blend of English and Chinese curricula.”

The announcement of this second international school forms part of an agreement with BE Education, which will see five Wycombe Abbey International Schools open across the country.

Unlike in the UK, WAIS HQ will cater for both genders.

WAIS HQ facilities will include a specialised science laboratory, interactive libraries and a 700 seat theatre. The development will also include a stand-alone kindergarten campus.
