Business process management developer Appian has extended its reach into the education sector after Australia’s University of Wollongong selected it to digitise its application procedures for international students.
The arrangement sees UoW using the developer’s low-code, cloud-based platform – software development using a graphical interface rather than hand coding – to create its On-line Student Mobility Application, replacing paper-based applications to improve the experience for both inbound and outbound students.
“Universities operate in an increasingly competitive global market and they must remain agile and adaptable to change”
“The application process is the first interaction international students have with the university,” said UoW’s chief information officer Fiona Rankin.
“It was important to us that during this first interaction we were presenting ourselves as modern and efficient, by making the application process completely online and as simple and fast as possible.”
Within the OSMA, students can submit their application to study and perform tasks such as adding new subjects, managing fees and payments, and tracking their study plan. Help with understanding visa requirements is also provided.
Appian’s Asia-Pacific vice president Karen Astley said providers were increasingly looking towards digitising their processes.
“Universities operate in an increasingly competitive global market and they must remain agile and adaptable to change,” she said.
The agreement sees Appian, which also provides services for sectors including insurance, manufacturing and retail, continue its push into the education sector, now providing services for four Australia universities as well as TAFEs.
