The internationalisation spotlight will shine on the Americas this week as over 600 higher education stake holders from over 30 countries convene in Mexico to discuss student mobility in a time of strained resources.
The third annual Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) is the only event of its kind dedicated to fostering interaction between institutions within the American hemisphere.

This year’s programme will include a plenary presentation from Francisco Marmolejo, coordinator of higher education at the World Bank and roundtable discussions from leaders at UNESCO’s International Institution for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) and the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE).
Key themes will centre around accreditation, financing, international agendas and the impact of MOOCs on internationalisation.
The conference will also focus on the expanding role Mexico plays in both inbound and outbound student mobility.
The event will be preceded by the third annual Meeting of the Space for Women Leaders in Higher Education in the Americas (EMULIES) that will discuss the role of women and gender equality in the sector.
CAIE was found in 2009 by the CBIE, the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), and the Inter-American Organisation for Higher Education (OUI-IOHE), with the support of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFATD). Previous conferences have been held in Brazil and Canada.
