An Australian English language school that operates interesting “Teach and Travel” programmes in China and Vietnam has received official endorsement from the government of Vietnam. English Language Company (ELC) Australia signed an MOU with the government earlier this month, which will see Teach and Travel Vietnam (TTV) participants help raise standards by teaching in the state school system.
Under the programme, which launched in August, ELC will recruit, train and place up to 500 English teachers per year into the public education system throughout Vietnam.
The agreement was witnessed by the Trade Commissioner for Australia in Vietnam, Ms Elodie Journet and the Deputy Minister for Education and Training, Nguyen Vinh Hien. Nguyen acknowledged the importance of the partnership to increase English proficiency in Vietnamese schools.
The event also marked the beginning of activities to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Australia, he noted.
David Scott, Managing Director of ELC Australia, commented, “This is a large scale project which ELC is proud to have initiated. ELC will provide high quality well trained English teachers as well as on-the- ground training and support for them while they are in Vietnam.
We will work closely with the government of Vietnam to raise the standards of English teaching and learning throughout the public education system.”
TTC, which is a joint venture between ELC and IES Global, has also flourished in China, catering for more than 500 students per year. Scott said that such programmes enabled participants to experience a country’s culture “beyond the guidebooks”.
