StudyPortals is taking a step towards its goal of global transparency in study choice after announcing this week that it will be taking over study search platform, StudentOrient.org.
StudentOrient, developed by the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School, allows students to access information about study programmes, internships and scholarships in Asia.
“We are very happy that we can now do in Asia what we’ve already done in Europe”
StudyPortals, an international study choice platform, has 1,800 universities from 48 countries participating, but its ultimate goal is global transparency in study choice.
Edwin van Rest, CEO of StudyPortals, said that because much of Asia is still a developing market in English taught education, it is sometimes difficult to find study options.
“That’s what we’re about, to help students find their best study options,” he told The PIE News.
“So we are very happy that we can now do in Asia what we’ve already done in Europe and what we’re doing in North America and Australia.”
StudentOrient.org is currently in the process of being integrated into the StudyPortals platform.
It already features 16 universities in Asia, including Peking University, Tsinghua University and the National University of Singapore.
StudentOrient.org was developed by NAHSS, which organises a national honours programme over the summer for Dutch university students to travel to Asia.
Nikki Wijnands, from the NAHSS programme board, said StudyPortals has the right means for reaching a large number of students.
“Our main goal is to motivate as many students as possible to go studying in Asia and as such we believe StudyPortals is the best website to provide students with relevant information,” she said in a statement.
Van Rest confirmed that taking over StudentOrient.org is a big step for StudyPortals.
“Ultimately we want to have a comprehensive overview of all English taught education options in Asia,” he said.
“And for this year, we would at least like to have the universities that are part of the world’s top 1,000.”
