The rapidly expanding student search platform, StudyPortals, has announced it has raised €5m in investment via KEEN Venture Partners, a tech investment fund, to continue to drive its global expansion plans.
The Netherlands-based company operates course listing sites for various search preferences within education, such as MastersPortal.eu (its original site), BachelorsPortal.eu, LanguageLearningPortal.eu.
Founded in 2009, it has rapidly expanded both its online reach with students and simultaneously its business relationships with education institutions.
“We are very excited to accelerate towards our mission of making education transparent, globally”
The investment announcement coincides with the company opening a new HQ in Eindhoven for its 140+ staff, which is being officially inaugurated by Queen Maxima on April 7.
StudyPortals’ CEO, Edwin van Rest, said, “We are very excited to accelerate towards our mission of making education transparent, globally. There are still many students misinformed about their study options, or even unaware of the opportunities they have across borders.”
He said that StudyPortals chose to work with KEEN because they shared “our ambition of truly revolutionising education choice and putting students first”.
The investment will help find ways to optimally match international students with universities based on academic, personal, career and financial considerations.
“We look forward to benefitting from [their] network of partners and vast experience in scaling global tech companies, particularly on the internet,” added van Rest.
General partner at KEEN, Alexander Ribbink, former COO of TomTom, has joined the StudyPortals Board of Directors.
“With a great international team, an exciting roadmap, and an ambitious plan, we believe StudyPortals is well positioned to become the platform of choice for students and universities alike,” he said.
According to StudyPortals, over 19 million prospective international students used their platforms in 2016. The company currently serves 2,450 universities in 110 countries, listing 114,000 study programmes.
