UK independent school Rugby School has announced it will open a sister school in Japan in 2022, following the success of its first overseas school in Thailand.
Located in Tokyo, the school will cater for up to 750 pupils and will be run by a Japanese operating partner.
“Rugby School Japan will be an authentic interpretation of Rugby School England,” said Peter Green, headmaster of Rugby School, who added “sharing Rugby’s aims and ethos, but within – and mindful of – the cultural context of Japan.”
In 2017, Rugby opened Rugby School Thailand, which now serves around 700 students.
“Rugby School Japan will be an authentic interpretation of Rugby School England”
“Everything we do at Rugby School is about encouraging the children in our care to develop into whole people, into well-rounded adults,” Green added.
“While Rugby School is unashamedly academic, we believe that to help children to grow with confidence in themselves and curiosity about life, they need to have as many opportunities as possible.”
Rugby School Japan will be the first British independent school to open a sister school in the country, although earlier this year Jinseki International School was announced as “Japan’s First British Curriculum International Boarding School”.
However, there are several international schools operating in the country, such as The British School in Tokyo, St. Mary’s International School, and Horizon International School, to name a few.
Rugby will cater for both day and boarding students and will teach in English. The school is also considering an additional campus in Kansai and enrichment campus on Hokkaido.
