Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), UK, is to launch a branch campus in China in a deal announced last week. The China Queen’s College will be based in the northeastern city of Shenyang and run in partnership with the China Medical University, one of China’s top ranked universities for health sciences.

Around a thousand students will study for degrees in pharmaceutical science at the campus, taught by lecturers from the UK and China. The campus, expected to open in 2013, will be QUB’s first foreign joint campus abroad.

Queen’s President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Peter Gregson said: “The creation of a joint college with one of China’s top health sciences universities is based on a real and vibrant partnership. It will provide many opportunities and deliver real outcomes for society in China, in the UK and in Ireland.”
