Artists across France, Germany, the Netherlands and Turkey will have the opportunity to travel over borders to complete work placements thanks to a partnership between Institut Français de Turquie, the Consulate of the Netherlands in Istanbul, Goethe Institute of Germany and the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV).
Over 18 months, the Be Mobile – Create Together! artist residence program will see Turkish artists live and work and gain cultural experiences at institutions in France, Germany and the Netherlands for between three to six months, while European artists will go to Turkey.
“Cultural exchange and activity can always open windows and create bridges”
Led by the Institut Français de Turquie, the Consulate of the Netherlands in Istanbul, the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and the Goethe Institute, the EU residence program is due to begin accepting applications in March 2019.
The artists to participate the program will be selected in June 2019.
The program aims to develop an international network for cultural exchange and easy access to mobility for people working in creative arts, according to the Goethe Institute.
“We all believe that it is helpful to be in touch and create together, especially in times when relations between countries are strained,” Reimar Volker, Goethe Institute Istanbul director told The PIE News.
“Cultural exchange and activity can always open windows and create bridges.”
Be Mobile – Create Together! will establish a network between 16 artist residencies in Germany, France, the Netherlands and in Turkey. Details of the program will be announced on March 20.
The program is supported by the European Commission with around €500,000 and follows the European Agenda for Culture 2018.
