Oxford English Centre in the UK – a 30-year old English language school – has new owners, with the announcement from previous owner Graham Simpson that he has decided to take step back from the operation.
The new proprietor is Gaye Dixon, an Australian national who owns the Holmes Institute schools in Australia. Through this acquisition, Ms Dixon has realised a longstanding dream to own a leading independent school in Oxford, the city where she began her life journey in international education.
She started her teaching career at St Clare’s in Oxford, and says in her heart she has always wished to return. “There is a niche for independent schools in this world of mass markets,” she said. “The Oxford English Centre offer is one that has stood the test of time and is still in high demand from students and agents. We plan to continue the amazing work for which Graham and his staff are renowned”.
The new manager of the school is Terry Malone, who also has many years of experience in international education. “The reputation of Oxford English Centre is second to none,” he said. “I am very eager to become part of the successful team.”
OEC will continue to organise an annual Oxford Fun Run, attended by many local language schools and held each May, which raises thousands of pounds for charity.
