In its first US expansion move, Oxford International Education Group (OIEG), formerly known as ISIS Education, has acquired its first ELT school in San Diego, which joins the company’s two other North American schools, both located in Canada.
OIEG bought the school from its owners, who have a franchise agreement with global education group Eurocentres.
Eurocentres San Diego will retain its branding and staff under the new ownership.
The school’s current capacity is for 110 students, but OIEG is finalising a move in March 2015 to a new site with 15 classrooms in centre of San Diego, which will double its number of students.
‘”We have the UK, we have Canada and we have been searching for an east or west coast US school to act as our entry point,” OIEG’s David Brown told The PIE News. “Our recruitment team tell us that San Diego is a destination growing in popularity.”
Brown identified key source markets for the school as Latin America, the Far East and Albania.
Students will have access to interactive whiteboards, a learning centre, a student computer room and a student lounge equipped with additional computers, vending machines and games tables.
Brown has described San Diego as “an exciting new location” and on its website, OIEG says the city is “the ideal location for international students wanting to experience American culture in a safe, friendly city.”
OIEG caters for over 30,000 students annually from more than 100 countries at more than 25 campuses. Eurocentres San Diego is OIEG’s seventh ELT centre, joining two Canadian schools and four based in the UK.
