Australian based education company, Navitas, is to launch its ninth pathway college in the UK in partnership with Birmingham City University in Birmingham, UK.

Under a 10-year agreement between with the university, Navitas will establish the Birmingham City International College, which will offer courses preparing students for Birmingham degrees.

Navitas chief executive Rod Jones said he was delighted with the agreement. “We are also very excited by the university’s commitment to graduate employability and research successes, and believe there will be strong student interest globally,” he said in a statement.

The venture welcomes its first cohort in October 2012 and expects to break even within 18-24 months.

Net profit after tax increased in 2011 by 20% to US$77.4m.

Navitas also runs colleges in countries including the US, Australia, Canada, Indonesia and Singapore. It opened six new colleges in 2011, including five in the US – its first in that market.

The company’s net profit after tax increased again in 2011, this time by 20%, to US$77.4m.
