UK-based Malvern College celebrated its fifth international campus, which will open in Hong Kong next year, with a launch party in London last week.
Malvern College Hong Kong will open in September 2018, making it the city’s second British K-12 school after Harrow International School Hong Kong opened in September 2012.
Managed by Chinese partners Babylon Education, MCHK will offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum to children aged five to 18.
“The majority of students will have an international background, reflecting this vibrant international city”
There will be 380 students in its first cohort, which will rise to 960 when the school is operating at full capacity.
“The majority of students will have an international background, reflecting this vibrant international city as a hub of Asia,” the school’s website says.
The chief secretary of Hong Kong’s SAR government, Carrie Lam, laid the school’s foundation stone in August last year.
“The Hong Kong SAR government is committed to developing a vibrant international school sector to underpin our position as Asia’s world city and international hub,” she said at the time.
“I welcome Malvern to set foot in Hong Kong, and congratulate Malvern College Hong Kong on successfully taking forward this project.’
Founded in 1865 as an independent boarding and day school in Worcestershire, England, Malvern College opened its first overseas branch in Qingdao, China, in 2012.
It also has a second campus in China, in Chengdu, and one in Egypt, which opened its doors in November 2016.
Speaking at the launch of the new campus at The Oriental Club in London on February 22, Malvern College UK’s headmaster, Antony Clark, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our family of schools to Hong Kong.
“We are looking forward to building on our successful educational foundations and our partnerships in the region to establish schools which genuinely share our ethos and values.”
