Foreign politicians and diplomats, security service personnel, senior business people, international footballers and global pop icons are among those who have been educated in English by the UK’s oldest English language school, The London School of English, which has just celebrated its venerable age of 100 years old.
Those who dreamed up the idea for an English language school in the capital of the UK would have been proud to be among those honouring the success of the operation last week. What started as a small operation in Oxford Street, London now includes business interests in other cities and countries, with franchise operations running successfully in Qatar, Georgia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.
The London School of English also has two centres in the capital now; one in Canterbury, Kent and another in Stockholm, Sweden.
Timothy Blake, Chief Executive at the school, presided over proceedings and he paid tribute to an organisation that is always looking forward. “Our strategy for the future can be summed up in one simple phrase: ‘always change, but always change for the better’,” he said.

Blake added that while he has been at the helm of the school – which is one of the market leaders for executive training – he was proud of the decision to offer general communications skills training as well as language courses.
“Excellent language skills will take people a long way but when combined with a flair for communication, the impact is far greater. Our recent expansion into cross cultural and voice training has proved especially popular.”
