LCI Education, a network of postsecondary campuses around the world, has acquired the Canadian as a Second Language Institute in Vancouver for an undisclosed amount, as it looks to work with more language schools.
The acquisition also creates a pathway into admission at LCI’s LaSalle Colleges in Montreal and Vancouver for students studying at CSLI.
“We were finding that a lot of the students that applied to the college did not have the right [English] proficiency level,” Veronica Cartagenova, director, international bureau at LCI Education, told The PIE News.
“Our growth probably will be based maybe on seeing where we need language schools”
“So that’s why we thought that we needed to have a language school.”
Having moved to a new location in Yaletown, Vancouver in 2014, LaSalle College is located one block away from the recently acquired language school.
Also in LCI Education’s network portfolio is the Montreal International Language Centre, which Cartagenova says helps to enable students to progress in to LaSalle College for career college training.
“I would say 50% of the students in the language school that we have here on campus will continue on to the college,” she added.
LCI Education Network has 22 campuses in 12 different countries around theworld, including Indonesia, Australia, Colombia and Turkey.
Cartegenova said the network’s growth plans will likely gear towards acquiring more language schools.
“Our growth probably will be based maybe on seeing where we need language schools to sort of support our higher education strategy,” she said.
CSLI, which has been operating for 24 years, enrols between 190 and 300 students each month, and last year saw a total of approximately 13,000 student weeks.
Its students mainly come from Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia and Brazil.
No changes will be made to CSLI’s operations as a result of the acquisition.
In July last year, the Academy of Design Australia joined LCI Education network, and since then has announced it is investing in a new campus.
LCI Barcelona also officially opened a new campus last October.
