Kings Education, which delivers English Language and pathway programmes in the US and UK, has opened up two new partnerships on the East Coast of the US in an expansion of its preparatory first year On Campus Plus model.

Kings will deliver on-campus undergraduate and graduate preparation for first-year international students at Rider University in New Jersey and Concordia College, a liberal arts institution in New York.

“We ask students to think about the degree they want on their wall in four years and we build a path for the student to accomplish that goal”

Kings New Jersey at Rider University will welcome its first cohort in April 2015, while the Concordia partnership, which is already up and running, is currently recruiting for January.

This brings the group’s On Campus Plus portfolio to five locations and means that enrolments are “moving swiftly towards an annual cohort of 1000 students across these five locations”, a spokesperson told The PIE News.

Instead of adding a ‘year 0’ foundation course to an undergraduate programme, the On Campus Plus model allows students to progress to the second year of an ordinary four-year degree once they successfully passed their freshman year.

They will have guaranteed acceptance to the second year of a degree at Rider or Concordia, or can choose instead to transfer full academic credits to one of Kings’ 22 partner universities, including New York University, Rochester and the University of Southern California.

Staff will counsel students on their study plan, including where to progress in their sophomore year, as part of the personal support available at the on-campus Kings Centre.

Jose Antonio Flores, Managing Director of Kings Education in the USA, said that this flexibility is one of the model’s key strengths.

“We ask students to think about the degree they want on their wall in four years and we build a path for the student to accomplish that goal,” he said.

Kings New Jersey will also offer Vacation Course ESL programs at its Rider University facility from April 2015.
