Kaplan International has scooped an award for its “Exporting Excellence”, selected by a panel of judges for UK-based Education Investor magazine and commended in particular for its market impact in sub-Saharan Africa.

The award was gained for “achieving growth despite strong challenges in the transnational education market”, and working in a wide range of territories from Singapore to Nigeria.

Across the Kaplan portfolio is a strong pathways brand, Kaplan International Colleges, and Linda Cowan, MD of KIC, was in London to accept the award.

She spoke to The PIE Review about KIC’s work in Africa and Singapore earlier this year, underlining that there are 5,000 students enrolled with Kaplan in Singapore who will progress on to study a Western degree delivered in Singapore.

KIC also launched an in-country pathway model in Lagos, Nigeria in the last two years.

The judges observed, “Their key innovation this year, for which the award is given, has not been for new products but for their admirable initiative to take their existing services to the biggest remaining but undeniably most difficult new area of Sub-Saharan Africa.”

Cowan told The PIE News, “The delivery of in-country pathways and TNE provision is an incredibly important part of Kaplan’s partnership activities with universities and complements the successful work we do with universities in relation to pathway colleges in the UK, the US and Australia, international student recruitment and online delivery.

“We were delighted with the performance and expansion of our university partner activities in 2015 and thrilled to have the work recognised through the Education Investor Awards.”
