Australia’s Impact English College has risen above larger universities, technical and further education institutions to be recognised as one of Victoria’s leading exporters in the English Language Training (ELT) sector by the state government.
The ELT provider received a prestigious Governor of Victoria Export Award (GOVEA) Commendation in the Education and Training category this month while Victoria’s largest higher education institution, Monash University was the overall winner in the category.
“It is not simply an award to the company that earns the largest amount- as a stand-alone private provider, we could never compete”
Governor of Victoria Alex Chernov and the Minister for Employment and Trade Louise Asher presented the further awards for the Health and Biotechnology, Agribussiness and Manufacturing industries saying the winners and commendees were the “top export leaders” for the state.
“They are driven and inventive business people who have taken their products and services to new and expanding markets,” Asher said.
The award – now in its 34th year – weighs a business on its company, products and services; export marketing strategies, its operations as well as employment and financial strategies. Of these, the financial and marketing strategies carry the most weight.
Just six years old in January next year, the Education and Trainee commendation is a significant win for Impact English.
“It is not simply an award to the company that earns the largest amount- as a stand-alone private provider, we could never compete with the universities and technical and further education institutions on that score,” principal Chris Burgess, told The PIE News.
“But clearly Impact English College’s submission has shown excellence in all these categories to have achieved this commendation for a company of our size.”
Impact College initially targeted Asian markets including Korea, Japan, Taiwan then followed with Latin America and Europe. Today, Japan, Columbia and Taiwan make up its top three markets with 28% of its 500 students coming from Japan.
Winner Monash University has over 63,000 students and locations spanning Malaysia, South Africa, India, China and Italy.
Burgess added that the award is a boon for the private sector “giving agents around the world significant confidence when they are dealing with private providers, letting them know that we are good providers”.
