Staff from English UK will trek 23 miles as part of the Three Peaks Challenge this year, in order to raise money for a scholarship fund, created in memory of the late chief executive, Eddie Byers.
The challenge, which will take place in September, will see 10 English UK staff climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours.
They hope to raise £15,000 for the scholarship fund, which will be set up in Eddie’s name with the aim of enabling students to study English in the UK, which was announced in January.
“We wanted to raise the money for Eddie’s scholarship fund, and do something big for him as well”
Eddie Byers’ wife and daughter, Sam and Iona, will be joining the group to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland. A further six people will be joining them at Mount Snowdon in Wales.
“We wanted to raise the money for Eddie’s scholarship fund, and do something big for him as well,” said Jodie Gray, head of English UK’s new market development.
“It will be a real challenge: we’ll need to be fit, determined and resilient to do this in 24 hours with not much sleep and everything the mountains can throw at us.”
The challenge will take place in on 16 September, starting in Scotland, and overall will involve 23 miles of trekking, and 3,049m of climb.
As of Wednesday morning, the group has raised over £1,100 in sponsorship. To donate to the challenge, click here.
