ELS Language Centers, which has a global network of schools but is predominantly based on-campus across the USA, has unveiled its first on-campus language centre in Malaysia and partnership agreement.
Partnering with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), ELS can now offer graduates of its Certified Intensive English Programme access to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at UPM, a leading research intensive public university located in Serdang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed by UPM’s Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir. Dr. Radin Umar Radin Sohadi and Mr. Mark Harris, President of ELS USA (pictured) which will see UPM take on the status of an ELS Worldwide partner.
Dr.Radin Sohadi commented, “Under this joint venture with ELS, more than 150 students have enrolled in this programme with the aim to improve their skills and meeting at least a minimum standard of English requirement. With this innovative arrangement started by UPM, all of these students have been conditionally accepted by the university and will soon be enrolled into their chosen university programmes later this year”.
In a bid to produce employable graduates in a highly globalised world, the on-campus ELS centre will also offer the CIEP to UPM students. “Students will then be able to equip themselves with a standard of English that is required in today’s working environment,” said both partners in a press statement.
They explained that the CIEP can be used as an alternative to the TOEFL and IELTS, as a university entry requirement and as a “fast-track to English enhancement” when preparing for university studies.
