Major US-based English language teaching organisation, ELS Educational Services, honoured four US individuals last month with Lifetime Contribution to International Education Awards.
“This year’s award honourees are very special,” John Nicholson director of marketing and communications at ELS told The PIE News.
“They all bring very different perspectives and contributions: from efforts to professionalise ESL instruction and guarantee a quality experience, to outreach efforts to different corners of the world, and a posthumous award given to a university president who worked extensively with the UN to build connections between HE institutions worldwide.”
During honouree Roger J. William‘s time as Executive Director of ACCET, the agency has maintainted its formal recognition by the Secretary of the US Department of Education as a “reliable authority” and was granted certification as a Quality Management System in 1998.
Dennis Dease was recognised for expanding international outreach at the the University of St. Thomas through establishing a campus in Rome and semester abroad programmes in Rome, London Paris and Glasgow.
Susan Adams accepted the posthumous award for Dr. J Michael Adams which honoured his work at Fairleigh Dickinson University especially in launching the United Nations Pathways programme and the creation of the distance learning programme Global Virtual Faculty.
Meanwhile Glenn Nicholls at Case Western Reserve University was honoured with the award for overseeing programmes in areas including athletics, educational support and residential life.
“They all share a deep commitment to international education and global citizenship,” added Nicholls.
ELS has been the leading English language pathway provider in the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe for over 50 years, assisting more than 1,100,00 students to date. It has been recognising educators with the award for over 20 years.
