Millions of students aged 11 to 17 across Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Mexico, as well as Rwanda, will be able to use Efekta’s new AI tutor to help them learn English more quickly, while the company’s classroom assistant will free up teachers’ time so they can concentrate on helping students who need extra support.
Efekta – an offshoot of program provider Education First – has launched Classroom AI to help teachers automate repetitive tasks such as marking, and Addi, the company’s new AI tutor that keeps students on track with digital language models tailored to their proficiency level.
Up to four million students could benefit as part of the rollout, with Efekta claiming that it marks the world’s largest ever trial of AI tutoring alongside an AI teaching assistant to date.
Efekta CEO Stephen Hodges said the company was excited to bring Classroom AI and Addi to more classrooms.
“By blending AI with a structured curriculum, we give every student a chance to succeed and give teachers extra support,” he said.

The rollout follows in the footsteps of Efekta’s existing programs across schools in Latin America – collectively enrolling over four million students onto the English learning program since 2022.
One program supported 750,000 students in Paraná, Brazil to score a 32% improvement on the state’s standardised English test after using the platform between 2022 and 2024.
