EducationUSA – the government body tasked with promoting US education abroad – has launched a new mobile app allowing international students who want to study in the US to access information about the opportunities available to them.

Through the app, students can find an EducationUSA advising centre near them, engage with EducationUSA social media, receive financial aid updates, view event photos and frequently asked questions, and contact advising centres virtually.

In addition, it features push notifications to keep students up-to-date on the latest EducationUSA programmes in their home countries.

“More prospective students from around the world will be able to quickly and easily access information”

“The use of smart phones is increasing rapidly across the globe,” said Education USA in a statement. “With this app, we hope more prospective students from around the world will be able to quickly and easily access information about study in the United States.”

EducationUSA promotes accredited US universities and educators overseas through its network of hundreds of advising centres in 170 countries and channels such as student fairs and social media. Its chief aim is to promote cultural understanding between the US and other countries through education, as evidenced at a recent fair it ran in Palestine.

However, it has been criticised by some US universities for its unwillingness to work with education agents in the way equivalent organisations such as the British Council do. It will not attend fairs run by agents, for example, despite the fact that US Department of Commerce will.

The EducationUSA mobile app is available for free download on both iTunes and Google Play.
