Global English language group, EC English Language Centres, is expanding its 30+ offering worldwide, following the success of its initial programme in London and answering growing demand for adult language learning.

The Maltese-owned group has recently opened two 30+ schools in Malta and Toronto, and is set to open a third in New York early next month.

“I find that students really benefit from the school. They feel more secure in this environment, they generally have similar interests”

The new schools follow EC’s first 30+ programme, launched in London in 2013 when the group identified a gap in the market for an offering that targets the over-30s, giving them the chance to learn with students their own age.

Each of the 30+ programmes operate in the same location as existing EC schools, but take place in dedicated facilities that include a separate reception and classrooms.

The course so far has received an “overwhelmingly positive response”, an EC spokesperson said, leading to increased demand for similar programmes in more locations.

EC’s executive chairman, Andrew Mangion, noted that being in the same age group enables students to engage with other learners and learn from each other.

“With more experience of work and travel, and the insights and confidence that come with that, an international classroom of over-30s can become a really fascinating place,” he commented. “Authentic conversation flows and, with that, learning happens fast.

“We thought it was worth devoting a whole school to the concept in London, and as it turned out, so did our students,” she added. “Those who previously thought they were ‘too old’ to learn English are finding it is precisely their maturity that makes 30+ such an enriching, effective experience.”

Established in 1991 in Malta, EC now operates language schools in 21 locations worldwide.

“Ever since opening our first school in Malta in 1991, our mission has been to give students the tools and support they need to succeed in a global community. This focus throughout our team has led to some amazing and innovative results, 30+ being one of those,” commented Mangion.

“We are all looking forward to this exciting chapter in the EC story, as we launch 30+ in St Julian’s, Toronto, and Times Square, New York.”
