Dulwich College International has unveiled plans to open two campuses in Burma’s largest city, Rangoon, backed by $30m in capital from Yoma Strategic Holdings.

Yoma is passing over operational management of Pun Hlaing International School, situated in the corporation’s Pun Hlaing Golf Estate real estate development, to Education Index Management, which owns DCI, in August.

“The Dulwich College Yangon campus facilities will stand as testament to our shared vision of developing a world-class international education in Myanmar”

It will then become Dulwich College Yangon Pun Hlaing campus and begin accepting admissions for the 2016/2017 academic year.

Meanwhile, a second campus in Thanlyin Star City is currently under construction and will begin teaching in 2017.

The two campuses will be collectively known as Dulwich College Yangon.

The institution adds to DCI’s existing stable of schools in China, South Korea, Singapore, as well as the founding school, Dulwich College in London.

Speaking at a launch event at the British Ambassador’s Residence, the British Ambassador to Burma Andrew Patrick said: “It brings me great pleasure to welcome Dulwich College to Burma; founded in 1619 the college is one of the UK’s oldest and most prestigious independent schools.

“The influx of British educational provision of this calibre will be a huge benefit to Burma.”

The college will offer what it calls an “enhanced version” of the English National Curriculum, leading to the IGCSE exam, followed by the International Baccalaureate curriculum in years 12 and 13.

“The Dulwich College Yangon campus facilities will stand as testament to our shared vision of developing a world-class international education in Myanmar, and will offer exceptional prospects for the Myanmar and foreign students who will use them,” said Fraser White, founder and executive chairman of Dulwich College International.

Founded in 2003, Dulwich College International is the management arm of the Dulwich College brand. The UK-based school interacts with the management company through curriculum development, collaborative projects between teacher and students and annual visits by the master.
