A new partnership between international school Dakar Academy Central and Discovery Education will allow teachers to use technology to teach students and further advance their interests in STEM.
Established in 1961 as the first international and Christian school in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. Following a North American-based curriculum, the Academy teaches 285 students from preschool through to grade 12.
Robb Warfield, Superintendent of DA Schools, stated that the academy looks forward to integrating the new resources into the school’s STEM lessons using the Discovery Education Science Techbook.
“These new state-of-the-art digital science resources from Discovery Education will encourage our students to explore the world around them, getting them ready for life after graduation,” said Warfield.
With a focus on practical instruction, the tech-books also come with coordinated teacher guides offering unit, concept, and lesson overviews, standards connections, and differentiation activities.
Flexible pacing options, embedded teacher notes, and pathways for supporting diverse learners are also provided in the teacher guides.
The educators of the Academy are also set to receive professional development lessons from Discovery Education’s learning expert team, to instruct them on how best to integrate the system into their teaching.

In addition to this, they will also be granted access to the Discovery Education Network, the global edtech company’s international community of education professionals – connected through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events.
With a wide pre-existing presence in Africa and the EMEA region, this is the digital learning platform’s first venture in Senegal.
Discovery Education’s International Education Consultant, Andy Walls, has expressed the company’s interest and excitement in building its presence in ‘this vibrant and diverse country’.
