The agent training course launched last year by the Beijing Overseas Study Services Association and ICEF has certified more than 100 Chinese education agents in its first year, the organisations have announced.
The China Education Agent Course, which was adapted from the ICEF Agent Training Course, was launched last January with the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, aiming to standardise and raise the quality of international student recruitment in China.

“Though BOSSA cannot enforce against unprofessional or fraudulent advising practices, it can promote higher standards by distinguishing and awarding the professionals.”
So far, 104 agents have been trained, 60% of which are BOSSA members, which, according to Santangelo, demonstrates that the qualification is “gaining traction as the most sought-after credential for Chinese study abroad professionals”.
A further 13 candidates are awaiting their examination.
Agents who pass the CEAC are recognised internationally by ICEF as China ICEF Trained Agent Counsellors, as well as gaining membership to the Overseas Study Senior Expert Association, a subdivision of BOSSA.
“We are all extremely committed to supporting Chinese education agents to professionally represent both the interests of international students and their educator partners,” commented ICEF CEO Markus Badde.
“We are confident that like our other qualifications, the CITAC status will fast become a recognised distinction of quality and professionalism in China and abroad.”
