Cambridge Education Group has announced a further expansion of its US footprint with a new pathway programme at California State University, Monterey Bay.

International students at ONCAMPUS Cal State Monterey Bay will complete a programme of English language teaching and academic preparation, enabling them to transfer into the second year of any of the 22 majors the university offers to international students.

“With such a great partner in CSUMB and attractive location we expect this to be a very popular centre with students”

The centre will welcome its first two full classes of students in January next year, and is expected to grow “to a significant size” within three years, a CEG spokeswoman told The PIE News.

“With such a great partner in CSUMB and attractive location we expect this to be a very popular centre with students,” she added.

California is the most popular state for international students in the US. Monterey Bey is located on the state’s coastline, within striking distance of San Francisco, Silicon Valley, andYosemite park.

It is part of California State University, the largest four-year public higher education system in the US.

“Our university is committed to fostering a diverse and globalised learning community and to creating opportunities for traditionally underserved populations,” commented Tim Angle, dean of the College of Extended Education and International Programs at CSUMB.

“Providing a new pathway for English learners to earn an accredited degree is completely in line with these deeply felt institutional values, and we couldn’t be prouder to kick off this fantastic program.”

This is the third ONCAMPUS centre announced by CEG in recent weeks, following ONCAMPUS Hull in the UK and ONCAMPUS Lund Sweden. It brings the total number of ONCAMPUS centres to 12 worldwide, including four in the US.

Further expansion is planned and it is “likely” that more partnerships will be announced by the end of the year, the spokeswoman said.

“Our team is working hard to develop partnerships with other institutions to ensure we can offer students the experience they want, in the location they desire and at the right academic level, delivering on our promise of offering the world’s leading university pathways,” she commented.
