A sizable group of 30 schools, working with an insurance provider, airline and travel operator, have been able to offer a complete travel-and-study package to 150 Japanese students aged 15 to 30, covering tuition and accommodation while they are in Canada (worth CAN$430,000 in total).
The students are currently in the country. Bogie Lapinski Anaya at Languages Canada explained, "Canada and Japan have a long-standing relationship in education, which is why our members responded in such a personal way to the Tohoku earthquake. Many of our schools have been receiving Japanese students since the onset of their programmes, and have forged numerous friendships over the years."
She added that initiative took off because "our members who wanted to show their support in a way that reflected the character of the language education sector in Canada". The initiative was also supported by Guard.Me health insurance, a Languages Canada associate member.
