Citing “greater flexibility for the student”, Camosun College in Canada has signed agreements with six well known English language teaching companies in order to accept students from these partners directly on to programmes at the college.
Articulation agreements have been signed with ILAC, ELS, Kaplan, VGC International College, ILSC and Global Village.
“This agreement will give Camosun access to a pool of eager, motivated students that we couldn’t previously connect with, and will lead to more diversity on our campuses,” announced Christiaan Bernard, director, Camosun International.
He told The PIE News that he believes “we will see between 15-25% of our stable enrolment from pathways in the next five years.”
Currently, 70% of Camosun’s international students come from less than a dozen countries, with China, India and Vietnam at the top of that list.
Bernard is keen to expand and diversify the international student intake at the college in Victoria, British Columbia.
He noted that the partners chosen have a presence in markets where Camosun has only recently started recruitment efforts, such as Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Latin America.
“We will be helping the partners focus on the advantages of Victoria,” Bernard said, highlighting the high quality of public education, the lowest unemployment rate in BC, mildest climate in Canada, and Victoria’s status as Most Educated city in Canada and Best city to be a woman in Canada.”
Geoff Wilmshurst, vice president, partnerships, added that there is evidence-based support that pathways agreements benefit institutions and students. He said, “These agreements will enable Camosun to attract successful students who have put thought into their education plan.”
Camosun International is the international education division of Camosun College, welcoming more than 1,600 students from 80 countries each year.
