The British Educational Travel Association held its annual British Youth Travel Awards in London earlier in November, honouring educational organisations from around the world.

The awards, which celebrate industry stakeholders in the £27 billion young traveller sector, saw nominees compete in 14 different categories.

A panel of eight judges gave out awards for best accommodation, best educational product, and best schools program.

“The awards are a great initiative to recognise businesses that do a great job servicing the youth travel market”

“I was delighted to be part of the judging panel for the 2019 British Youth Travel Awards,” said Paul Halpenny, advisor: International tourism and accommodation sector, and BYTA judge.

“The awards are a great initiative by BETA to recognise the large number of businesses that do a great job servicing the highly valuable youth travel market.

“I was impressed with the many fine submissions particularly so in the categories of Best Innovation and Best Accommodation.

“Clearly businesses are listening to their young customer base, are adapting and improving their product to better serve this important market now and into the future,” said Paul Halpenny, advisor: International tourism and accommodation sector.

Winners included TASIS The American School in England, which was won the ‘Best Educational Product’ award for a 41-year-old summer program that sees students and staff from over 30 nations come together.

“TASIS England nurtures intellectual curiosity and emboldens each learner to flourish as a principled, open-minded, and compassionate member of a global community.

“We thank BYTA for the award and for recognising our work with young people and the fantastic educational product that is the TASIS England Summer Program. I am also grateful to the outstanding program team: administration, students, faculty, and staff!” said TASIS England’s head of school, Bryan Nixon.

Other award winners included Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, who won the ‘Best Schools Programme’ award’ for ‘The Making of Harry Potter’.

The award for Best Marketing was awarded to student.com and the Best Accommodation was given to St Christopher’s At The Village. For a full list of winners, visit the BYTA website.
