The University of Birmingham’s long-awaited Dubai branch campus will open this year, offering scholarships to select students of up to 40%.

The Russell Group institution announced in 2017 that it would open the campus in the following year in the “rapidly developing” international education hub. It is now set to welcome students from September 2021.

Students at the United Arab Emirates campus will earn the same internationally recognised ‘University of Birmingham’ degree certificate as they would in the UK.

Skills and expertise students will gain are sought by top employers in the current global market, the institution said.

“In our new academic home, we will deliver an educational experience like no other in Dubai”

“We believe that, in our new academic home, we will deliver an educational experience like no other in Dubai,” said David Sadler, provost at the University of Birmingham Dubai.

The ‘Intelligent Campus’ – located in the Dubai International Academic City – is embedded with “flexible, cutting-edge technology allowing innovative, multidisciplinary teaching and learning”, he continued.

The ‘collaboration’ and ‘digital first’ approach at the heart of the campus design reflects real-world working practices, according to the institution.

“We aim to deliver a flexible and powerful teaching environment in Dubai that students and staff will enjoy,” Sadler added.

“Colleagues coming from our Birmingham campus to teach in Dubai will feel immediately at home in our teaching spaces. Everyone – students and staff alike – is eagerly looking forward to moving into our brand-new, bespoke campus building.”

Students will additionally be encouraged to study in interdisciplinary teams with peers in Dubai, the UK and Singapore, where Birmingham has been delivering business education at its Business School since 1994.

The institution is offering scholarships up to 40% for individual based on their academic performance across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
