International education organisation StudyPerth has opened a new, dedicated space for international students in Perth.

The Student Hub, “designed with a digital and wellbeing first approach”, was officially opened by David Templeman, WA minister for Education and Basil Zampilas, Lord mayor of the city.

“I look forward to seeing the Hub bustling with activity as we welcome more and more international students to our magnificent state,” said Templeman.

The Student Hub was originally established in 2020 during Covid-19 to provide “support and a central meeting place for students who could not return home” and an important first point of contact for many international students.

The new facility will continue to “enhance the international student experiences”, Derryn Belford, CEO of StudyPerth, said.

“We know that our international students – especially those who are new to Perth – are a long way from home and the support of family and friends.

“The new Student Hub facility will continue to enhance the international student experiences in Perth by connecting them to the wider international student community and the support services they need,” he said.

It will promote a “welcoming, inclusive and fun environment”, and students will have access to free facilities and services, encouraging “better study, work and wellbeing” while advocating Perth as a study destination.

These include study spaces, “technology-enabled group stations”, kitchen and printing facilities.

International students will also be connected with “free employment, mental health and legal support”, which they will also have access to “virtually, and around Perth”.

Career and counselling services are provided in partnership with Multicultural Services Centre of WA, with legal services in partnership with Practera and North Perth Community Legal.

“We know that our international students are a long way from home and the support of family and friends”

“StudyPerth works closely with the Western Australia government through the department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and education institutions to market Perth as a destination of choice for international students,” Belford added.
