Traditionally, Indians have not studied in China and relations between the countries remain cool due to
two unresolved border disputes. However, the MEA report claims Indians are increasingly attracted by China's admission system, affordable fees and facilities.
International branch campuses such as The University of Nottingham and University of North Carolina are also a draw.
Business opportunities, buoyed by China’s strong economic growth are another incentive. "Many Indian families have set up their businesses in China. The two countries are into massive export and import business. Hence, their children are enrolled in higher educational institutions," MD of the Chopras, Natasha Chopra said.
As many as 50 Chinese universities accept foreign students, including the Liaoning Medical University, Peking Union Medical College, Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Seven Chinese universities have featured in the QS Worldwide Top 200 rankings – "a confirmation of the quality of academic standards of both teaching and research," according to Chopra.
