Southampton Solent University, UK. As Southampton Solent celebrates its 20th year of university status, Don Iro has been appointed pro-chancellor, becoming the first person outside the role of chair of the board of governors to take on the position. Currently serving as vice-chair of the board of governors, Don brings a wealth of experience and deep personal ties to the university. His journey with Solent began in 2004 when he arrived in the UK from Nigeria as an international student. He went on to graduate with a BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering in 2007. In 2019, he was appointed an independent governor at the university. The honorary role of pro-chancellor carries an ambassadorial function, presiding over degree ceremonies, and engaging with key stakeholders regionally, nationally and internationally. Don is a seasoned entrepreneur and executive, with a global career spanning digital and IT services, supply chain, and logistics. His leadership roles have included positions in the private and public sectors across the UK, Asia, Middle East, and Africa.
