David Winstanley has been appointed group director of external relations at the University of Liverpool, responsible for leading a reshaped external relations function comprising marketing; communications and public affairs; global student recruitment and outreach; global engagement and partnerships; and development and alumni relations. David was previously at the University of Southampton for six years, most recently serving as executive director, student life with a broad portfolio encompassing global student recruitment and WP; student support, experience and engagement; careers, employability and student enterprise. In 2025 he spent six months seconded to India overseeing the implementation of Southampton’s new campus in Delhi. David said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Liverpool at such an exciting time. The external relations function has a pivotal role to play supporting the delivery of the University’s global ambitions, as articulated in the Liverpool 2031 strategic framework.”
